TEHRAN — Doctors at Tehran’s Mostafa Khomeyni Hospital have removed a kidney tumor weighing around 8 kilograms from a woman.
The woman who went to the hospital complaining about acid reflux was diagnosed with kidney tumor, Doctor Fereydoun Khayyamfar, an urologist at the hospital said, IRIB reported on Friday.“Based on the images obtained from the patient’s kidney we figured out that she had a tumor, however we had no idea about its size,” he added.
“She was prepared for the surgery and after five hours and using a new surgical technique, we removed an eight kilogram tumor and her kidney with the least blood loss,” he noted.
Khayyamfar said that they can’t decide if the tumor is malignant or benign before the pathology test result comes back but he pointed that the tumor is most likely benign.
The patient who is now recovering thanked the doctors and mentioned that she feels way lighter than the tumor weighed.
